Roof and gutter replacement
Roof and gutter replacement after hail damage
The shingles on this two-story house looked fine from the driveway. Up close they were bruised, the granules were sitting in the gutters, and the roof was done.

Finished: shingle slope and roof vents below the dormer, with gutters along the eave.
Finished: white gutter and eave line above the garage doors.
Finished: gutters and trim along the eaves of the two-story side.
The problem
Our first visit was in August 2023. From the ground the roof looked like any other tan shingle roof in the neighborhood. On the roof it told a different story: shingles with dark bruises where the granules had been knocked off, and edges that lifted when you put a hand under them.
The gutters gave it away too. They were lined with shingle granules, which is what a roof sheds after a hailstorm. A roof losing its granules is a roof losing its protection from the sun, and it goes downhill from there.
We came back in October 2023 and marked out test areas on the slopes so the damage could be counted the same way an adjuster counts it. The job ran as an insurance claim, and the owner's insurer made the coverage call.
What we did
We replaced the shingles across the whole roof, and the gutters and downspouts along the eaves were part of the same job. The house has a lot going on for its size: a dormer, several gables, a stone chimney and long runs of eave over tall windows. Each of those is a spot where water changes direction.
At the chimney, the shingles tie into metal flashing against the stone. The roof vents sit in a row up the slope so the attic can breathe. Along the eaves, white gutters carry the water to downspouts at the corners instead of letting it sheet off over the windows and the garage doors.
If your gutters are full of granules after a storm, get the roof looked at before the next one. Book a free roof inspection.
Materials
- Architectural shingles in a brown blend, replacing the old tan blend
- Roof vents set in a line up the main slope
- Metal flashing at the stone chimney
- White gutters along the eaves, with downspouts at the corners
Timeline
The photo record runs from the first inspection in August 2023 to the finish photos in June 2024. The long gap in the middle is the claim, not the crew. The finish work shows up in the photos from June 11 to June 26, 2024: downspouts first, then the final walk around the house. Call it about two weeks of work photos, with the final set taken on June 26.
The result
The finished roof is a single brown blend from the ridge to the gutters, with clean lines at the dormer and the chimney. The gutters run straight along every eave and the downspouts are tight to the walls. The job is complete and closed.
