What Farragut roofs are up against
A roof put on in the late 1990s or early 2000s is now 20 to 25 years old, and plenty of those are on their first replacement. Summer thunderstorms are the main threat. Knox County saw hail up to 1.5 inches on September 4, 2025 (WBIR) and an EF-2 tornado on August 7, 2023 (National Weather Service, Morristown). Homes on the lake side take more wind across open water. Wind lifts the tabs on older shingles and breaks their seal, and the next storm peels them back.
The dark streaks on north-facing slopes are algae. They're mostly cosmetic, but they're a reason to pick an algae-resistant shingle when you replace.

Your HOA comes first
Many Farragut subdivisions have covenants on roof color and material. Find your HOA's review form. We'll fill in the shingle maker, line and color, with a sample photo, and order only after approval comes back in writing.
Permits in Farragut
Farragut runs its own codes office, separate from the City of Knoxville. The town says a plain re-roof usually doesn't need a building permit unless the job includes structural work. We check for your address, and if a permit is needed, we pull it.

Common questions
Will my HOA approve a different shingle color?
It depends on your covenants. Some Farragut HOAs list approved colors, some only ask that the color fit the street, and a few want the same color you have now. Bring the manufacturer, the shingle line and the exact color name to the review form, plus a photo of a sample. We supply all three, and we don't order material until the approval is in writing.
Do I need a permit in Farragut?
Usually not. The Town of Farragut says a plain re-roof doesn't typically need a building permit, unless the job needs structural work. Farragut runs its own codes office, separate from the City of Knoxville. If your roof does need a permit, we pull it, put the fee as a line on your price, and show you the permit card on the job.
After a storm, should I call my insurance company or a roofer first?
Get a free inspection first. It tells you whether there's damage worth a claim. If there is, you file it with your insurer, since it's your claim, and we can document the damage, write a scope and meet the adjuster at the house. If there isn't, you've spent an hour and nothing else.
Will my HOA have a say in my roof?
In a lot of Knoxville-area subdivisions, yes. Many covenants set rules on shingle color and sometimes material, and the HOA wants its review form signed off before work starts. We'll fill in the manufacturer, line and color for the form, and material gets ordered only after the HOA says yes in writing.
