Roofing in Seymour, between Knoxville and the Smokies

Seymour straddles two counties at about 1,200 feet, with Bluff Mountain rising to the south. Storms come over the ridge, and with no town permit office, the county you live in sets the rules.

Seymour at a glance

  • A census-designated place across northwest Sevier County and northeast Blount County.

Two counties, one roof

Seymour sits in both Sevier and Blount counties. That means two sets of property records, and which county's rules apply depends on which side of the line your house is on. We sort out your county and what it asks for before you see a price, and any paperwork it needs is part of the job.

Storms off Bluff Mountain

Bluff Mountain, the north end of Chilhowee Mountain, rises south of town. Storms build along that ridge and get here fast. The wind hits a roof's ridge line and the rakes along the gable ends first.

Younger roofs, older roofs, and metal

Seymour added about 3,800 people between 2010 and 2020, so younger roofs sit not far from much older ones on the farms and back roads. A younger roof usually needs a repair after a storm. An older one may have two layers, soft decking and flashing that's been patched more than once. We price shingles and metal at one inspection. See metal roofing.

Common questions

Which county is my Seymour house in?

Your property tax bill says, since you pay that tax to the county the house sits in. If the bill isn't handy, send us the address and we'll check before we price the job. It also tells you which codes office to call.

Do I need a permit to re-roof in Seymour?

That's a county question here, since Seymour has no town office. Sevier and Blount each set their own rules, so the answer depends on your side of the line. Send the address and we'll look it up. Any permit it calls for is ours to pull.

What if a storm opens my roof at night?

Call (865) 830-8126 any hour for emergency service. If it's safe, move what you can away from the drip and set a bucket under it. Don't climb onto a wet roof in the dark. A tarp can go on once there's light to work by.

Which areas do you cover?

All of East Tennessee. We work across Knox, Blount, Loudon, Anderson, Roane, Sevier, Jefferson, Hamblen, Grainger, Union, Monroe and Cocke counties, from Knoxville and Farragut out to Maryville, Sevierville, Oak Ridge, Lenoir City and Morristown. Not sure we reach you? Text your address to (865) 830-8126 and you'll get a straight answer.

After a storm, should I call my insurance company or a roofer first?

Get a free inspection first. It tells you whether there's damage worth a claim. If there is, you file it with your insurer, since it's your claim, and we can document the damage, write a scope and meet the adjuster at the house. If there isn't, you've spent an hour and nothing else.
